There are many disciplines of horse shows and competitions. The methods of judging horse & rider and the tasks that the pair must complete varies depending on the discipline that they are competing in. Three well-known disciplines are:

  • Show Jumping: A fast paced event where horse and rider must successfully jump over multiple obstacles in the quickest time possible. The fastest time with the least mistakes is the winner.
  • Dressage: The art of riding and training a horse in a manner that develops obedience, flexibility, and balance. In the show setting, the rider is expected to memorize a dressage test and perform it in front of a judge. The judge will have the chosen test and will rate the horse and rider on a scale of 1-10 on how well they executed each movement.
  • Eventing: An equestrian sport in which competitors must take part in each of three phases; cross-country, dressage, and show jumping. At eventing shows, the phases may be carried out in 1, 2, or 3 days depending on the rating of the show. At the end of the event, the rider with the most points in dressage, and the least penalties in dressage and cross country is the winner.

The list of horse shows and competitions is quite extensive but regardless of which division you enter, horse shows are exciting events which every rider should experience.

Beginner riders usually attend Schooling Shows which are for young and / or untrained horses. It is a fun event where rider & horse can experience the events in a less competitive atmosphere. More experienced riders and horse pairs attend state or USEF shows. At Mane Event Stables, LLC, we make sure our riders have a fun, safe, and educational experience. We do not stress winning, but we do expect our riders to conduct themselves in a professional manner as dictated by this exceptional sport.

Mane Event Stables, LLC members participate in a variety of shows hosted within our property and shows that are off-property. Please inquire about your participation in horse riding shows North Carolina:
